Movies to Expect

You visit IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes. You see a trailer on the front page. This could be interesting. You watch it and you like it. Then another one starts playing. You decide to see the upcoming films, some new trailers and teasers. The info there is not enough so you check Rotten Tomatoes, too. Now you have discovered about ten films you haven't heard of, but you desperately want to watch.

This list is made of movies like that.

12 Years a Slave

Some of you may have seen it. It's already out in the US, but it's yet to be released in the UK. So far the user reviews are positive, critics are loving it. When you see that Steve McQueen has directed the film, you know Fassbender will be in. And you know he will make the perfect antagonist. You will see stars like Brad Pitt, who is also the producer, Paulo Dano and Benedict Cumberbatch, but they are not the people under the spotlight.

Chiwetel Ejiofor is the main man. You've seen him in 2012, Children of men, American Gangster and much more.  He plays an afro american free citizen who is kidnapped and sold into slavery.

A lot of films about the slavery have been made in the last few years and always brought huge attention  from critics and viewers. I expect no less from this one. People have become braver and now they show the real face of slavery in the older days. That's what grabs the attention. That's what's unique about this film. Critics are loving it and the people who've seen it give it highest rates. Can't wait to see it myself.

The Counselor

And if you didn't have enough of Fassbender and Pitt, here is another film starring those two wonderful actors. Joining them are Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz and Javier Bardem. If the cast is not enough check out the director - Ridley Scott

So far so good. It sounds like a brilliant film. Drugs, gore, violence... something not everyone would like. Some say the film is an absolute disaster. Critics don't love it, the general audience despise it. But this is only in the States. Many others say it is brilliant in its own way and it deserve a bigger attention. Don't know about that, but I'll sure watch it when it comes out.

Dom Hemingway

Jude Law. That's all I have to say here. It's not like the other actors don't matter, but Law is the main reason I'll watch it. His performance is what makes the whole thing hilarious, but at the same time - not stupid.

It's not the most original thing - a convict/ex-prisoner wants to reconnect with his family/daughter and wants to make up for all of the years of absence. We've seen it before and it us usually a plot for a comedy. But this time it looks different. There is more action here, more style. Just the trailer makes me want to watch it and have a nice laugh. It's coming out in November in the UK, but in the US - in 2014. Don't miss it!

RoboCop 2014

This is something we've been waiting for two decades. It's all natural for movie producers to create a reboot. With today's technology it would be a shame not to have a more modern film about the awesome RoboCop.

The first one is a classic and people all over the world love it. This puts a lot of pressure on the upcoming feature. They got the cast right - Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman and Joel Kinnaman - main protagonist. We know the plot, we know the story. But will it be any good? A great cast doesn't make a movie. Some people are really sceptical, because reboots are usually a recipe for a big failure.

Let's all have hope and see what 2014 will bring us.

Seventh Son

Jeff Bridges in a fantasy film? Well, why the heck not? Some people say it might be one of the best fantasy films in a long time. I believe it will be an epic picture and it's worth the watch. It's based on the epic novel with the same name. This could be troublesome, because people have the bad habit of comparing cinema and literature and saying "It's nothing like the book".

Anway, besides Jeff you'll see Jon Snow (Kit Harington) for a short period of time and Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes) - he's the seventh son of the seventh son. Julianne Moore will make a great antagonist.

I believe we really needed some fantasy after all the Sci-Fi movies we've seen lately. I just hope it doesn't turn bad like Season of the Witch.

The Monuments Men

George Clooney, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray and John Goodman - simply put them in a room and let them talk about whatever you want and you'll have a great movie. Amazing cast and it's just one of the main reasons to watch this film.

It's based on a true story and it's absolutely different from any other World War II picture you've ever seen. I mean most of them are about battles, about the suffering of humankind, but this one is about art. Have you ever wondered how all these pieces of which survived centuries, even millennia have survive the destructiveness of World War II? It's because of men like these.

With a perfect dose of comedy, action and drama this is a must-see! February will be a good month.

The Art of the Steal

You can't have a list and not add a heist film somewhere. This is the one. I've been waiting for Kurt Russell to come back for several years now. He was my idol when I was a kid - Snake Pliskin, McReady, Jack O'Neil - all iconic roles we all love. And now he comes back in a comedy.

In a few words - a motorcycle daredevil is offered a job to steal the most expensive book in the world. His brother is involved and they make a small team. The brother is Matt Dillon. The team - Jay Baruchel, Chris Diamantopoulos and Terence Stamp. I believe it will be amusing. There weren't any good comedies this year, but you never know what the future will bring us.

The Others - not a film, just enlisting other movies.

The list is getting too big, but there are several other titles I want to mention. One of them is Anchorman 2 - it will be a legendary comedy.

Another - Captain America: The Winter Soldier. There will be more comments like "It's not like the comicbooks" or "Another movie made for money". I hope it will be better than the first one. And of course it's made for money... it's no for charity.

Last Vegas - yet another comedy. Old men trying to act young - not original, but I like the cast and have some hopes for this one. Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Kevin Kline - what's not to like?
