How Proper Video Marketing Is Done

I'm sure at least some of you are dealing with some form of marketing. I'm also sure, all of those have read countless marketing advice blogs and industry tips and tricks. And while some of them are proper and deserve time spent, most articles and videos you're going to watch are utter fertilizer.

Today I woke up to a splendid example of how you do marketing using mother's day as a leverage. One of Geoff's clients produced  a video about mother's day using a very unique and creative angle.

Why Flat Design Works From The Eyes Of A Non-professional

This article is a repost from my original publication at Medium: Why Flat Design Works From The Eyes Of A Non-professional Please, direct any attribution to the link above. As for the content, it's exactly the same, so enjoy !
Remember when bevel, gloss and drop shadow were three required effects for your design to succeed ?
I do. It used to be really cool to get that semi-realistic effect on your font or buttons. It was the prime example of a graphical environment and people really digged it.

However, that came to an end last year, when a new trend won the popularity contest — flat design. It’s everywhere — on websites, infographics, illustrations, application UI’s. I’m waiting for the moment it goes into games as well, if it’s not already and I’ve missed it.

If SEO Was Like Music

Don't you hate it when you get stuck in a traffic jam? You sit there, waiting for hours to move a few inches. The only thing you can do is listen to the good old radio... or play some game on your super smart phone.

So I was listening to the radio and a random pop song came on. Not a big fan of the genre, but there are a lot of good songs. This particular one wasn't. There was a lot of repeating of the same word over and over again. The lyrics had almost no meaning and the melody was sampled from another very successful song from the past. Because I see content everywhere, I instantly connected that to my work - SEO.

Music SEO genres

This is how I see SEO if it was like music.

Pop Music

This genre has been here for a long time. I won't talk about the olden days, but about modern pop. The Pop SEO is a persona who likes to stuff his text with keywords. No synonyms, no variations, maybe a bit of entity salience. They usually mention the main keyword at least 50 times in a 500-word-text. And they will put it in the title and in the headers.

These folks always search the easiest ways to rank. Just the most skilled ones will create something new and will maintain it for years. Most of the Pop SEOs prefer to grab an old content and give it a new look. It's called a skyscraper technique - why think of new things, when you can rely on already successful content. Just make it better, or in most cases - fresher.

A main problem here is that many of the colleagues in this field are one-hit wonders. They make one site, rank it to the top with a lot of links, lot of mentions, stuffed content. The website stays on the top positions for a few months, but later on it will fall and we will never hear from it again. Sometimes they come back with new sites, but they never have the same success.

The Importance of OnSite Optimization.

OnSite Optimization is a very important part of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Many people concentrate on link building, on link baiting and other important techniques. They are all significant for your product, but links are not the only thing you have to worry about. For a SEO to succeed in his target, he needs a good website to offer.

This is where OnSite Optimization comes. Your usual target is to put a page in the top 10 (or even on number one spot) list of sites in the search engine result page (SERP). To start doing that, you need to offer a good product to the audience. No matter how good links you are building, in the best directories possible, with the highest PageRank and the biggest Trust Flow, it just won't work until you have done your Onsite.

With the help of some reliable sources (Moz, Search Engine Journal) and personal experience, I created a useful guide on Onsite Optimization for beginners.

Beginners Guide for Blogspot/Blogger

When I started blogging (not long ago) I really didn't know where to start from. There were three options - WordPress, Blogger or some smaller platform like Wix or Jimdo. I was really interested in what Ghost can offer, but we will have to wait a few more months before it comes out. Most friends suggested WordPress, because it is a lot easier, prettier and it's the biggest blogging platform around, but I preferred Blogger (Blogspot). Sometimes I regret my decision, but the whole experience is really fun.
When you are new to the platform you really don't know what to do first. Start with choosing the right name. Think a lot about that. There is no turning back (you can make a new one, of course). But if you are making a blog, you probably already know what you'll be writing about. If you have the resources - buy a domain. It is always the better choice. This way you have more options, more features and you can more easily promote your site.
I know my blog is not the best example for beauty and style, but you might be more talented, might be more innovative and you could do a better use from the guides I'll share with you. When I started I had all these questions and had to browse for hours to find the answers. So I'll give you the articles which helped me most.
