Say Goodbye to The Yahoo Directory

Are you familiar with the Yahoo Directory? For the SEO's and marketing experts, it's a very well know place. It's authoritative and Google could give you some juice if it sees your website listed in the directory. Yahoo and DMOZ are the two most important business directories out there and one is saying farewell.

Yahoo Directory Screenshot

But what is the Yahoo Directory? Back in the days, search engines didn't work like they are now. There weren't any robots to crawl your website, no 200 ranking factors and PageRank. In 1994 Google didn't even exist.

There was Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web. The name wasn't very catchy, so they decided to rename it and call it Yahoo!. It didn't crawl the web, but it was (still is) a huge directory where you could enlist your website in.

Basically you had a huge library full of websites. You go there, search for the website and then you open it. Simple as that. But it wasn't very convenient, because in order for your website to exist, it needed to be listed correctly. Because there were so many new entries each day, the moderators sometimes changed the descriptions and didn't use the necessary keywords. You can imagine how uncomfortable this could get.

It worked for years, but then Google came along and it showed the users a new way of searching. It was better, faster and more relevant. Plus, it didn't need all the human work. It was only a matter of time until Yahoo Directory became obsolete.

It's been dying for more than a decade and this year it will finally reach its end. On the 31st of December, The Yahoo Directory will be shut down.

Slipknot Gave Us A Closer Look at Their New Masks

Every SlipKnoT fan already know that they are releasing their new album next month (21st October). We've been waiting for 6 year and for a period we weren't even sure if it will ever happen. After Paul's death the band wasn't the same. Then Joey's departure came along. But they released two singles and have proven that their music is still alive.

The new album is called .5: The Gray Chapter and, as you can see, the name is dedicated to Paul Gray.

There are two new band members, which we know nothing about. It's rumoured that Alessandro Venturella is the new bassist and Jay Weinberg the drummer, but these rumours are not confirmed.

As you know, Slipknot change their masks for every album. We've seen many faces during the 19 years of their existence. And now, thanks to Buzzfeed, we have a really good look at the new official masks of SlipKnoT for the upcoming album.

Some are not as new, but others are really creative. The masks of the replacing members are not individual like the others. Instead they are a reminder of the past.

And here is the closer image look:

[satire] Facebook Declares War on the Onion and Information Warfare

Facebook bombs the Onion clipart picture

Facebook tests the [satire] tag in front of content from the Onion to protect their users from believing false information. Too many people mistake content from the comedy network that pops up in the "related news" section in Facebook for the truth, thus the social media website takes the needed precautions.

Cats Will Hack Your WiFi

This is not the new plot for Cats & Dogs. We had the suspicions that cats are spies and want to take over the world at some point, but this is becoming reality. They no longer want to take our free times with cute videos, and they no longer want to enter our homes through the power of Internet.

They want our WiFi.

Orlando Bloom Becomes a God After he Punched Biebs

Usually I don't like Hollywood drama and gossip. I couldn't care less who broke with who, who smoked some weed or had intercourse with their co-worker. Even sex tapes are nothing shocking and worthy of attention (unless it's a good one). But this "news" is just something our readers should know about. Orlando Bloom punched (or at least tried) Justin Bieber. What a fantastic day!

A photoshopped picture of Orlando Punching Bieber
from Metro.co.uk
You can see the video a little further down in the article.

I don't care why the brawl happened. Is it because of Miranda Kerr or Selena, whatever. The point is, that Orlando had the guts to do something millions of people around the globe want to do - punch Bieber. He instantly became a hero.

The thing is, he didn't actually punch him. He threw a punch, but there was not collision. Still, that's enough for the fans. Next time it will be right in the jaw and people will start building temples in honour of Orlando. I'm being serious here:

Kacy Catanzaro Owns American Ninja Warrior. The First Woman to Do This.

Kacy Catanzaro doing a challenge
Kacy Catanzaro at the American Ninja Warrior Finals
Watch Kacy Catanzaro beat the American Ninja Warrior. She is the first woman to do ever do that, so you are literally witnessing history.

And that's not the only reason the crowd loved Kacy. She just did the impossible. Five feet tall (about 152cm), the course is a lot more complicated for her, than to a regular-sized man. And the size is not the only disadvantage. She barely weights 45 kilos (100 pounds).

But what really grabbed the audience is her attitude. She knew she would win and did everything flawlessly. The commentators were amazed, the crowd was cheering. Between every challenge she stopped to greet the audience. At one point she even said she loved them.

She did what many Olympians and soldiers have failed. Watch the full video below:

The 2 Most WTF Moments of the World Cup

Every 4 years there's one month during which the whole world forgets about everything else and thinks only about football, football, football. Even if you try to stay out of the World Cup fever there are 2 fun and awkward moments of the championship that you simply shouldn't miss.

WTF Moment #1: Luis Suarez' Desire for Flesh

During a match between Uruguay and Italy, the top player of the first team – Luis Suarez  probably wanted a snack and decided to bite the shoulder of Italian player Chiellini. Unfortunately, the referee missed the biting incident so the Italian had to chase him around the field to show him the bite marks.

Apparently, this was not the first time Suarez bites some of the other football players. The Uruguayan Dracula had previously tasted Branislav Ivanovic and Ottman Bakkal. People even bet on Suarez biting someone during World Cup 2014 and won a significant amount of money.

Best of The Internet - Number 6

Another week has passed, another issues is here. This time it's a little shorter, but probably because we weren't browsing that much. You'll see a few scientific discoveries, cool forms of art, funny posts, cute things, and some comic books.

Kids Have all The Answers in Life

These are some of the purest answers you've ever seen. No one can answer a question like a child - so honest, so pure. And at the same they are quite clever and brave. Back in my school days I wouldn't even imagine writing such answers, but these kids know how to win the respect of their teachers.

My most favourite one is Number 5 - The Situation. It's just... Nobody can answer a question better than this kid. He or she should become a president some day. When they ask him all the complicated stuff, he'll have the smartest answers.

Yet A New iPhone

As usual, the stereotypes are true to the bone. The new phone is bigger,  but only slightly in size. The biggest difference is the screen. It's bigger and better.  Other than that...well...

Meow Meow and Other Horrific Drugs

We all love browsing the internet. We love to check out some news sites, browse Reddit and see some funny articles and pictures. Every now and then you see some really bizarre and shocking story you just feel obligated to share.

At the beginning of this year a horrific accident occurred in the United Kingdom. A 19-year-old lad stabbed his mother and to make things even more interesting he cut off his peepee. It is said that this strange action happened thanks to a drug called Meow Meow.

It sound cute and fluffy. You might even think of Colonel Meow or the beloved cabaret star with the same name. But this has nothing to do with it. The drug's real name is Mephedrone and you might have heard it as Drone or MCAT.

Colonel Meow
It's not as popular as other poisons on the market, but it has similar effects as amphetamines, ecstasy or cocaine. But probably thanks to this news story people will be looking for it in dark alleys. You know what they say - "There is no such thing as bad publicity". And drug dealers were probably just waiting for something similar to happen.

The story made me think about other weird and horrific drugs. So I decided to make a small list of really dangerous substances which made the news with some monstrous stories.

Study: Online Content Creators Outnumber Consumers 2,000 To 1

A brief article on the ratio between content creators, like myself, and content viewers, like yourself.

2000 to 1 - who knew ..?

Oatmeal comics content creator
Oatmeal
Of course, this is the Onion, so the statistics are made up for the laughs. But they make a good point. For the past decade the internet has grown and evolved so much, and it contains so much information, you can't even imagine the numbers of original content uploaded each day.

Don't think only about journalists, writers and big branded sites. Even the regular user is a content creator. You took three pictures with your mobile phone today, you uploaded it to Facebook or Tumblr and now you have 10 or 20 likes, shares and the numbers are growing. You created something original, people are seeing it.

But after all, the article is simply made for the lolz.

How Would you Make Your city More Playful?

This was just mind-blowing to me when I first saw it. Freespace is the ultimate source of inspiration there can be. From my perspective, I see it as a huge blank canvas. Then a community gathered around the canvas and working together, or in their separate corner of it to create this huge piece of art.

amazing spider-man 2 poster

Like every recent year, there will be a lot of fun films for the comicbook fans. It's not going to be as exciting as 2015 (Avengers 2, Batman vs Superman, Star Wars 7), but we'll still see some brilliant productions, which will break the box office and make  some people even richer.

The New Doctor Who Revealed

[SPOILERS]

Ladies and gentleman, your answer is finally here - the new Doctor Who is Peter Capaldi. It's been long few months since the announcement of Matt Smith's departure. Since then there have been many speculations about who the Twelfth Doctor will be. Most people thought Ben Daniels was the obvious choice, others where thinking of Damien Molony and David Harewood. Even Daniel Radcliffe was on the list. There were rumours about a female Doctor. But this is all in the past.

I have to say, Peter Capaldi is the perfect choice. A very talented actor, one of the best in his generation. Oscar winner, many BAFTA (TV and Film) awards and nominations, known for his famous role of Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It, he has proven his skills.
